Lal Teer Seed Limited is the first Research-based and the largest seed company in private sector of Bangladesh since 1995. Being only ISO 9001:2008 certified seed company in the country, it is engaged to develop, produce, process and market high yielding seeds of good quality to develop sustainable foundation of agriculture and food security of the country and the world at large.Lal Teer at present is marketing 131 varieties of 33 vegetable crops in the country. The numbers of hybrid as of today are 55 and Open Pollinated (OP) varieties are 76. It has also 9 hybrid and 5 HYV rice varieties, 3 hybrid maize, 2 hybrid cotton, 3 hybrid varieties of flower, 2 varieties of Jute, and 1 variety each of Potato, Mustard, Mung bean and Lentil.The Research and Development (R&D) Department of the company has 16 qualified and experienced breeders including 4 Ph.D holders engaged in research to develop varieties and technologies in two research centers.Lal Teer has got the state of the art facility for the processing, preservation and quality control of produced seeds and germ plasm. Fully automated dehumidified conditioned storage facility, seed grading and coating mechanism ensure the quality of seed. The company presently has the storage capacity of 1000 metric tons for vegetable seed and 1500 metric tons for cereal and other crops seed.To ensure an easy access of farmers to quality seeds, there are 32 Regional Marketing Offices, more than 1000 registered dealers, 45,000 retailers and mobile seed vendors across the country. Altogether, we cover the supply of our seeds to each and every village of the country.After attainment of success in the country through different initiatives, it stepped into export of seeds in international arena. This initiative is a remarkable milestone in seed sector of Bangladesh. This is not only our achievement but also reflects on the progress of Bangladesh as a player in the global agriculture sector.Lal Teer has been working with many renowned research organizations like BARI, BRRI, BJRI, Khulna University at home and International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), International Jute Study Group (IJSG), Win-all High-Tech Seed, China, Asian Vegetable Research and Development Center (AVRDC), Taiwan, Cornell University, USA, Beijing Genome Institute (BGI), China, etc. in abroad.Based on stronger adaptability and agro-ecological advantage 8 production zones are selected to carry out seed multiplication. The offices are located at Rangpur, Thakurgaon, Nilphamari, Dinajpur, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Meherpur and Chuadanga. Lal Teer runs seed multiplication through Contract Farming System involved by farmers that now count 5000 under direct and close supervision of highly educated, widely experienced, well trained agriculturists.Seed receiving, moisture testing, germination testing, drying, cleaning, grading, storage and packing sequence the order of activities of this department mainly accountable for ensuring the quality of seeds.
